Boethius’ Thesis: The connexivist interpretation of the conditional versus its semantic models

Miguel López-Astorga

Abstract

Boethius proposed a thesis that has been said to suppose the connexivist interpretation of the conditional that is often attributed to Chrysippus of Soli. However, in this paper, I try to show that there are psychological reasons to adopt Boethius’ Thesis and that the assumption of that thesis does not necessarily imply the acceptation of the connexivist criterion. I explain those psychological reasons based on the framework of a current psychological approach: the mental models theory.
